Sumdog Maths Games September 14, 2010

The Sumdog website features a collection of maths games for a variety of topics where students are required to quickly type or click in the answers to questions displayed on screen. At the moment there are seven different game types apparently covering 100 different numeracy topics at ten different levels. There are single player and multiplayer modes and there is no requirement to register to play.

The Fearless website has been produced by UK charity Crimestoppers. Its ‘Not a Young Person?’ section contains a collection of material designed to help teachers discuss topics such as drugs, theft and vandalism with their students. There is an assembly framework linked to each topic as well as ideas for classroom activities.

If you’re studying the Vikings with your class you might. want to check out the Grim Gruesome website. Grim Gruesome is a series of children’s fiction set during the Viking era. The website includes a collection of teaching resources that would still be useful even if you’re not using the books themselves. There’s also an interesting page full of Viking facts and activities.

The Oxford Reading Tree website has a collection of free resources for teachers who are using the reading scheme with their students. The downloads include material such as character sheets, word & sentence level teaching notes and activity ideas.
