This page on the Healthy Planet website has a collection of lesson plans, for years 1 to 6, designed to promote awareness of environmental issues. Although they’ve been specifically produced for use around Earth Day (April 21st) the ideas could easily be used at any time of the year.

There are a couple of resources on the Go Fruit! website that primary teachers might find useful. You can download an interesting powerpoint explaining how apples are grown and there’s also a useful worksheet showing a range of different fruit. Teachers are also able to send off for a free book, The Great Greedy Gogmagog.

The UK Department for Transport has produced this resource to help teach primary students about road safety. The site features posters, activity worksheets, videos, games and stories. Teachers can download a road safety education guidance booklet. There are also a collection of home-link sheets to encourage parental involvement.

National Grid Education‘s excellent School Power website covers the topics of Energy, Forces and Materials. The high quality teaching material includes interactive story books, experiment and activity ideas, presentations featuring great images, a very useful printable word bank and lots of curriculum links.

The Health & Safety Sign Association has a selection of resources for primary school students aimed at improving their recognition and understanding of standard safety signs. Activities and resources on the site introduce the colours and shapes, used in safety and informational symbols, and get students to design their own signs.
