The main Wessex Archaeology site features lots of resources that primary teachers will find useful, especially the large gallery of photographs (http://www.wessexarch.co.uk/photos/)which includes brilliant images of coins, artefacts from different time periods and pictures of archaeologists at work.

Wessex Archaeology has produced these great teachers packs containing activities and suggestions to complement the teaching of Tudor seafaring, Local History and World War II at KS2 and KS3. Each pack comes with a small collection of downloadable resources which include worksheets and artefact photographs.

The Teacher Support Network is a group of independent charities and a social enterprise that provide practical and emotional support to staff in the education sector and their families. They offer information, support, and coaching to all teachers and staff in England, Wales & Scotland. The site’s InfoCentre contains more than 1,400 useful factsheets for teachers.

Illustrator Brian Chalmers has produced a selection of drawings retelling stories from the Bible. The images are available as individual pictures (which are great for flashing up in a presentation while you are reading the stories) as well as complete storyboards (which serve as useful reminders for students).

Shelter Teaching Resources January 22, 2010

Housing and homelessness charity Shelter has produced an online classroom kit that offers an interactive programme of themed work exploring the complex issues they deal with every day.  Four key stage 2 lesson plans (for Geography, English, Citizenship, Design and Technology) explore what ‘home’ means to children in Britain and around the world. They consider what it means to be without a home, and encourage feelings of empathy with families who are homeless. The free resources include videos, drag and drop activities, games and information slides. The kit is designed to inspire students while meeting key curriculum objectives. (The kit has now been updated to include material for KS1 students as well)

Support Your School runs a scheme where teachers and parents can convert their old printer ink cartidges and mobile phones into funds for their school. The scheme provides each school with recycling bags, free collection and donates £1 for every suitable inkjet cartridge and £3 for every suitable mobile phone that is successfully recycled and reused.

Digital Adwise, from Media Smart,  has been designed to help teach KS1 and KS2 students about marketing communications. The interactive online lessons can be used by individuals or small groups on classroom computers. The lessons aim to help children to identify and understand the commercial purpose behind online marketing techniques such as viral marketing, the use of social marketing sites and online games.
